The Best Time to Visit Lisbon

By the Travel Portugal Now team · Published 2 October 2026

Lisbon is one of Europe’s sunniest capitals and a year-round destination, but each season feels different, from the June street festivals to quiet, mild winters. Here’s the best time to visit Lisbon, season by season.

Quick answer: the best months are April to June and September to October: warm, sunny days (around 20 to 26°C) without the peak crowds. June brings the Santo António festival. July and August are hot and busy. Winter is mild (around 14 to 16°C) and cheaper, with some rain.

Lisbon

Season by season

Spring (March to May)

Mild to warm, with flowers in the gardens and fewer crowds than summer. There are occasional showers in March and April. Perfect for walking the hills. See Portugal in spring.

Summer (June to August)

Hot and sunny, often around 28°C or more, with heatwaves in July and August. June is festival month. It’s the busiest and most expensive time, and beaches near Lisbon are crowded. See Lisbon in summer and Santo António.

Autumn (September to November)

September and October are still warm, with warm sea and thinner crowds. November brings more rain. See Portugal in autumn.

Winter (December to February)

Mild days with sunny spells and some rainy days, plus Christmas lights and New Year’s Eve on Praça do Comércio. Hotels are cheaper. See Lisbon in winter and Lisbon on a rainy day.
