The Best Beaches in Lagos
Lagos has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve: golden coves framed by sea stacks and arches, plus one long sandy beach for space. Here are the best beaches in Lagos and how to reach them.
Quick answer: the classic coves are Praia Dona Ana, Praia do Pinhão and Praia do Camilo (check whether its staircase has reopened). Praia da Batata and Praia dos Estudantes are right by the old town. For space, try Meia Praia (4km of sand) or Porto de Mós. Arrive early in summer, as the coves are small.

The best beaches
- Praia Dona Ana: the postcard beach, with turquoise water and rock stacks. It’s reached by steps.
- Praia do Camilo: a tiny cove at the bottom of a long wooden staircase, which has been closed for safety works.
- Praia do Pinhão: a small, sheltered cove between the town and Dona Ana.
- Praia dos Estudantes: famous for its little stone arch, next to Praia da Batata.
- Praia da Batata: the town beach, by the fort, with easy access.
- Porto de Mós: a wider beach west of Ponta da Piedade, with restaurants.
- Meia Praia: a long sandy beach east of the marina, great for families, walks and water sports.

Kayak and boat tours explore the grottos between the beaches. See Ponta da Piedade, and see kayak tours.
Tips
- Tides: the small coves shrink at high tide.
- Cliffs: don’t sit directly under them.
- Parking: limited near the coves, so walk from town.
- Sea temperature: fresh, even in summer.
