Where to Stay in Lagos, Algarve
Lagos is the Algarve’s most popular base for good reason: a lively old town inside medieval walls, golden coves at Ponta da Piedade, a long sandy beach and easy access to the wild west coast. Here’s where to stay in Lagos, area by area.
Quick answer: stay in the old town for restaurants, bars and walking to everything. Choose Praia Dona Ana and Porto de Mós for clifftop beaches and quieter hotels, or Meia Praia for a long sandy beach and resorts. For a calm village feel, consider Praia da Luz. See places to stay in Lagos.

The best areas
Old town
Cobbled lanes, squares, restaurants and nightlife, all within walking distance of the marina and the beaches. Great for couples and first-timers, though it can be noisy at night in summer. Try Lagos Avenida on the waterfront or the boutique Hotel Marina Rio.
Praia Dona Ana and Porto de Mós
South of the old town, near the famous coves and Ponta da Piedade. It’s quieter, with sea views and a 15 to 25 minute walk into town. Try Dona Ana Garden, Tivoli Lagos or WOT Lagos Montemar.
Meia Praia
A 4km sandy beach across the marina, with resorts, apartments and beach bars. Good for families and water sports. Try the Iberostar Selection Lagos.
On the edge of town
For a resort feel with spa and pools, try the Cascade Wellness Resort.
Praia da Luz
A peaceful resort village 10 minutes west. See Praia da Luz.
Tips
- Summer: book early, as Lagos fills up fast.
- Car: handy for the west coast, but not needed in town.
- Hills: some streets are steep, especially towards the coves.
