Where to Stay in Evora
Évora is a beautiful place to spend a night or two: the walled historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, wonderfully atmospheric in the evening, and the surrounding Alentejo is full of wine estates and country hotels. Here’s where to stay in Évora.
Quick answer: stay inside the walls to walk to the Roman temple, the Chapel of Bones and the restaurants. Try M’AR De AR Aqueduto in a 16th-century palace. For a special stay just outside town, the Convento do Espinheiro. For wine and countryside, an Alentejo estate like L’AND Vineyards or São Lourenço do Barrocal.

Inside the walls
The historic centre is compact and car-free in parts, with whitewashed lanes, the Roman temple, the cathedral and the Chapel of Bones all a short walk away. Perfect for a first visit.
- M’AR De AR Aqueduto: a stylish hotel in a 16th-century palace next to the aqueduct.
- Guesthouses and boutique stays in restored townhouses. Browse Évora stays.
Tip: parking inside the walls is limited, so check with your hotel.
Just outside town
- Convento do Espinheiro: a 15th-century convent turned luxury hotel, with a spa, gardens and wine tastings in the old cellar.
In the Alentejo countryside
- L’AND Vineyards (Montemor-o-Novo): suites with sky-view ceilings among the vines.
- São Lourenço do Barrocal (near Monsaraz): a beautiful farming estate.
- Torre de Palma (Monforte): a wine hotel with Roman ruins.
- Pousada Castelo de Estremoz: sleep in a castle.
Tips
- Stay at least one night: Évora is lovely in the evening once the day-trippers leave.
- Summer is very hot, so a pool helps from June to September.
- Getting there: about 1h30 from Lisbon by car or Intercidades train.
