Final thoughts

I have been to Sintra many times on a tour and on my own. From personal experience, I must say that there is no better way to explore Sintra than on a tour.

If you decide to explore Sintra with a car rental, keep in mind that the parking situation in Sintra is quite difficult, and there are limited car parking options in town.

It took me over an hour to walk uphill to reach the Pena Palace from the train station the first time I visited Sintra. Taking public transport to Sintra means that you will most likely have to take a bus, Uber or tuk-tuk to the palaces. It can be hard to squeeze in all the fantastic sites into one day. With a tour, everything is already planned ahead for you, so you don’t have to stress about missing out on seeing everything Sintra has to offer.
