Sintra Palace Tickets: Prices, Time Slots and How to Book
Sintra has six or seven palaces worth paying for, two separate ticket systems and timed slots at the two busiest. Get it wrong and you lose your morning in a queue, or find Pena sold out. Here is every price, slot rule and booking tip in one place, with 2026 prices from the official websites.
Quick answer: book Pena Palace (€20, timed entry) and Quinta da Regaleira (€20, 30-minute slots) online before you go. The Moorish Castle, Monserrate and the National Palace (€12 to €13) have no fixed slots, so you can buy those on the day. The official websites are the cheapest place to buy. Pena and Regaleira are run by different organisations, so you need two separate bookings.

Sintra ticket prices at a glance (2026)
Adult prices are for ages 18 to 64. The reduced price is for ages 6 to 17 and over-65s. Under-6s go free everywhere, though Regaleira still issues them a ticket.

*Parques de Sintra sites have also closed on 24 December and from 1pm on 31 December in recent years. Sites in the hills can shut at short notice in storms or on high fire-risk days, as Capuchos did on 24 September 2026. Pena also sells a Complete Visit (€45), adding the Stag Room and private royal apartments, and a park-only ticket (€12, reduced €10). Check parquesdesintra.pt and regaleira.pt before you go.
Which tickets to book ahead
- Pena Palace: tickets are for a set date and time, and you can only enter the palace at your slot. Weekend and summer slots sell out, and the first slot is the calmest. Allow at least 20 minutes from the park gate up to the palace: miss your slot and you can be refused entry with no refund.
- Quinta da Regaleira: entry is by 30-minute slot and daily numbers are capped, so summer and weekend slots go fast. You can enter up to an hour after the time on your ticket, but no later.
- Everything else: the Moorish Castle, Monserrate, the National Palace, Capuchos and Queluz have no fixed entry slots. Buying online still saves queueing. The Parques de Sintra ticket offices close from noon to 1pm, but the ticket machines keep working.
Parques de Sintra vs Regaleira: two separate systems
Pena, the Moorish Castle, Monserrate, the National Palace, Capuchos and Queluz are all run by Parques de Sintra, a public company. You buy them on its online ticket office and can put several in one basket.
Quinta da Regaleira is different. Sintra’s town council owns it, and the Fundação CulturSintra runs it with its own ticket shop, linked from regaleira.pt. No Parques de Sintra ticket or bundle covers it, so you need a second booking. The estate has warned visitors about tickets bought on other websites, so buy Regaleira direct or book a tour that includes entry.
Combined tickets and family tickets
Parques de Sintra sells “Feel Sintra” bundles that pair two palaces with a 24-hour ticket for buses 434 and 435. In October 2026 the official shop listed:
- Feel Sintra: Royal Palaces (€42): Pena’s Essential Visit and park, the National Palace and the bus. Bought separately that’s about €46.50, so you save about €4.50. You still pick a Pena time slot.
- Feel Sintra: Royal Heritage (€35): Queluz, the National Palace and the bus. You make your own way to Queluz, by train to Queluz-Belas.
- Biester Palace bundles (about €39 to €47): Biester paired with Pena, Monserrate or the National Palace, plus the bus.
Family tickets cover two adults and two young people aged 6 to 17: €65 for Pena’s Essential Visit, €40 for Pena Park only, €33 for the Moorish Castle or Monserrate, €35 for the National Palace or Queluz, €29 for Capuchos and €60 for Regaleira. At Pena the family ticket saves a family of four €11. Parques de Sintra family tickets are for members of the same household, and staff may ask for ID. See Sintra with kids.
Does the Lisboa Card cover Sintra?
Only the journey. The Lisboa Card (€31, €51 or €62 for 24, 48 or 72 hours) covers the CP train from Rossio to Sintra, but not entry to Pena, Regaleira or the other big palaces. Some palaces give a small discount at the ticket office when you show the card, but not on online bookings, so it’s no help for securing a Pena slot. The card only pays off if you also see several paid sights in Lisbon: see is the Lisboa Card worth it?
Buying tips: official sites vs resellers
- Official sites are cheapest: parquesdesintra.pt and regaleira.pt sell at the prices above.
- Resellers cost a little more: sites like Tiqets and GetYourGuide add a margin, but can be worth it for a bundle with a guide or transport, or easier cancellation. For Regaleira, stick to the official shop.
- Changing your date: Parques de Sintra lets you reschedule online yourself, within a year. Regaleira lets you change your slot online up to 24 hours ahead.
- Refunds: Parques de Sintra tickets are non-refundable unless the monument closes, for example in a storm. Missed Regaleira slots are not refunded.
- Check the notices: Monserrate’s palace has roof works and scaffolding until about early 2027 but stays open. Check the official notices on the day.
Want it all in one app? Tiqets sells Sintra palace tickets, including Pena time slots, as mobile tickets with free cancellation on many. Expect to pay a little more than on the official site.
Getting up the hill: buses, shuttle and cars
- Bus 434 and 435: the Scotturb hop-on hop-off loops start at Sintra station. The 434 climbs to the Moorish Castle and Pena, and the 435 runs to Regaleira and Monserrate. A 24-hour ticket for both costs about €13.50, and station queues build by mid-morning.
- The Pena shuttle: from the park gate it’s a steep 10 to 15 minute walk up to the palace. A small shuttle, about €4.50 return for ages 6 and over, saves your legs. Check it’s running on the day.
- No private cars: you can’t drive up to Pena or the Moorish Castle, and parking in town is very limited. Take the train from Rossio (about 40 minutes) instead: see Lisbon to Sintra.
The best order for a day
Book the earliest Pena slot and catch the 434 up first. After the palace, walk a few minutes along the road to the Moorish Castle for the view back to Pena. Have lunch in the old town, then take an afternoon Regaleira slot (around 2.30pm works well). With energy left, finish at the National Palace, where last entry is 5.30pm. Swap the castle for Monserrate if you prefer gardens.
For one adult, Pena, the castle, Regaleira and the bus come to about €65.50 before trains and food. Our Sintra in one day plan has the full timings.
Skip the planning: a full-day Sintra tour books the slots and gets you up the hill, which helps in July and August. Check whether palace entry is included, as some tours only visit Pena’s park. Compare options in the best Sintra tours.
FAQ
How much are Sintra palace tickets in 2026?
Adults pay €20 for Pena’s Essential Visit and for Quinta da Regaleira, €12 for the Moorish Castle or Monserrate, €13 for the National Palace or Queluz, and €11 for Capuchos. Under-6s go free.
Is there one ticket for all the Sintra palaces?
No. Parques de Sintra sells two-palace bundles with the bus, such as Pena plus the National Palace for €42, but nothing covers every site, and Regaleira always needs its own ticket.
Can I buy Sintra tickets on the day?
Yes, for the Moorish Castle, Monserrate, the National Palace, Capuchos and Queluz. For Pena and Regaleira, book online, as timed slots sell out in busy months.
What happens if I miss my Pena or Regaleira slot?
At Pena you can be refused entry with no refund, so leave time to get up the hill. At Regaleira you can enter up to an hour late, but missed tickets are not refunded.
