The Best Tours in Porto (2026 Prices)

By the Travel Portugal Now team · Published 2 October 2026

Porto is compact and walkable, but tours unlock the best of it: the port wine cellars, the river, the food and, above all, the Douro Valley. Here are the best tours in and from Porto, what they cost in 2026, and which are worth booking.

Quick answer: don’t miss a port wine cellar tasting in Gaia (from about €15–25), a six bridges river cruise (about €18–20), a food tour (about €75–110) and a full-day Douro Valley wine tour (about €115–200). With more time, add Aveiro or Braga and Guimarães.

Tours in the city

1. Port wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia

Cross the bridge to the port lodges and do a cellar tour and tasting. Prices vary: around €25 at Taylor’s (with audio guide), around €40 for a guided tour with three ports at Graham’s, and a range of options at Sandeman and Cálem. Or join a guided tasting that visits several. See port tastings.

2. Six bridges river cruise

A 50-minute boat trip under all six of Porto’s bridges on a traditional-style rabelo boat, for about €18–20. Easy, relaxing and great for photos. Sunset cruises (about €45–70 for 2 hours, often with a drink) are even better. See river cruises · sunset cruises.

3. Food tours

About 3.5 hours of tastings: francesinha, bifanas, cheese, sardines, pastries and port, with stories about the city. Around €75–110. See Porto food tours.

4. Walking tours

Free (tip-based) walking tours and paid small-group tours cover the Ribeira, the cathedral, São Bento and the bridges. A great first-day orientation. See walking tours.

5. Tuk-tuk and sidecar tours

Porto is very hilly, so a tuk-tuk is a fun way to cover a lot of ground: about €20–30 for 50 minutes or €45 or so for 2 hours. See Porto tuk-tuk tours.

6. Fado

Short fado concerts cost about €15–20, and some port cellars combine fado with a tasting. With dinner, expect around €60. See fado in Porto.

7. Livraria Lello

Not a tour, but book ahead: tickets start at about €8, redeemable against a book. See Lello tickets.

Day trips from Porto

8. The Douro Valley

The must-do: vineyards, two winery tastings, lunch and a river cruise, from about €115–200 for small groups. See our guide to the best Douro wine tours, or the Douro without a tour.

9. Aveiro and Costa Nova

Canals, moliceiro boats and striped beach houses, from about €45 on a tour. See our Aveiro day trip guide.

10. Braga and Guimarães

Bom Jesus and the birthplace of Portugal, about €50–70 (or around €99 with lunch). See Braga and Guimarães.

11. Peneda-Gerês

Waterfalls, villages and wild horses in Portugal’s only national park. See Peneda-Gerês.

The Porto Card

The Porto Card gives free or discounted entry to many museums and sights, with versions with or without public transport. It only pays off on busy sightseeing days, so add up what you plan to visit first.

Tips

  • Book the Douro early in summer and at harvest time (September to early October).
  • Check what’s included: hotel pickup, lunch and tastings vary a lot.
  • Free cancellation is worth having, especially for boat trips.
  • Prefer a local driver? See our local guides directory.
