Monte Gordo: Warm Water Near the Spanish Border

By the Travel Portugal Now team · Published 2 October 2026

Monte Gordo, at the eastern end of the Algarve near the Spanish border, has a long sandy beach backed by pine forest, with some of the warmest and calmest sea water on the Algarve coast. It’s a popular, good-value family resort.

Quick answer: Monte Gordo is about 45 minutes east of Faro. Enjoy the wide beach and gentle water, walk or cycle through the pine forest trails, and pop over to Vila Real de Santo António and the ferry to Spain. See places to stay in Monte Gordo.
