Praia da Falesia: The Algarve's Red-Cliff Beach
Praia da Falésia is one of the Algarve’s most spectacular beaches: a long ribbon of golden sand beneath red, orange and white cliffs, stretching for kilometres between Olhos de Água and Vilamoura. It’s perfect for long walks and space even in summer.
Quick answer: Falésia is east of Albufeira, with access points at Olhos de Água, Acçoteias and near Vilamoura. Arrive early for parking in summer, walk the sand below the coloured cliffs, and take the clifftop viewpoints at golden hour. The sea is open, so swim between the lifeguard flags.

What makes it special
- The cliffs: eroded sandstone in shades of red, ochre and white, with pine trees on top.
- Space: it’s so long that you can always find a quiet spot.
- Walking: a beautiful walk at low tide, all the way towards Vilamoura.
- Sunsets: the cliffs glow at the end of the day.
Where to stay nearby
Clifftop resorts like Pine Cliffs and the adults-only Falésia Hotel sit right above the beach. See where to stay in Albufeira.
Tips
- Cliffs: don’t sit directly beneath them.
- Stairs: some access points have long staircases.
- Facilities: beach bars and sunbeds at the main access points.
