The Azores in Summer

By the Travel Portugal Now team · Published 2 October 2026

Summer is the most popular time to visit the Azores: the weather is at its warmest and most settled, the hydrangeas are in full bloom along the roads, the sea is calm for whale watching, and the islands host lively festivals. Here’s what to expect from June to September.

Quick answer: expect around 22 to 26°C, with more sunshine and less rain than the rest of the year, though fog and showers still happen. It’s the best season for whale watching, swimming in natural pools, hiking and island hopping. Book flights, cars and hotels early.
