Porto Nightlife: Where to Go Out
Porto has a fantastic, unpretentious nightlife: crowded little bars spilling onto the street, riverside terraces, port and wine bars, live music and late-night clubs. Here’s where to go out in Porto, area by area.
Quick answer: start with sunset drinks in Gaia or the Ribeira, then head to the bar streets around Galerias de Paris and Rua Cândido dos Reis near Clérigos, where the crowds spill into the street. For alternative bars and live music, try the Bonfim area. Nights start late and run until dawn at weekends.

The main nightlife areas
Galerias de Paris and around (near Clérigos)
The heart of Porto’s nightlife: Rua Galeria de Paris, Rua Cândido dos Reis and the surrounding streets are packed with bars, and at weekends the party fills the streets. Busy from about 11pm.
The Ribeira
Riverside bars and terraces, perfect for an evening drink with a view of the bridge, though pricier.
Vila Nova de Gaia
Riverside terraces and wine bars facing the Ribeira, ideal at sunset. See Gaia.
Bonfim
An up-and-coming area east of the centre with alternative bars, live music and a younger, local crowd.
Foz and Matosinhos
Beach bars and seafront terraces for summer evenings.
What to drink
- Port tonic: white port with tonic, the city’s summer drink. See the port wine guide.
- Vinho verde: light and fresh. See vinho verde.
- Beer: a small draught is a fino in Porto (an imperial in Lisbon). Super Bock is the local brand.
- Craft beer and cocktails are increasingly popular.
Live music and fado
Look for jazz and indie gigs around Bonfim and the centre, concerts at Casa da Música, and fado shows (about €15–20 for a short concert, or with dinner). See fado in Porto.
Tips
- Timing: dinner around 8–9pm, bars from 11pm, clubs from 1am.
- Prices are lower than Lisbon.
- Getting home: Uber and Bolt are cheap. The streets are steep, so wear sensible shoes.
- Respect residents in the old streets; noise rules are enforced.
- São João (23–24 June) is the biggest party night of the year. See Portugal in June.
