Portugal in August: Peak Summer, Festivals and Tips
August is the height of summer in Portugal: the hottest weather, the warmest seas, festivals in every village, and the whole country on holiday. It’s fantastic for beach life, but also the busiest and most expensive month. Here’s what to expect.
Quick answer: expect highs of 28–30°C on the coast and 35–40°C+ inland. The Algarve sea reaches about 22–23°C. Highlights: village festivals, the Silves Medieval Fair, the Romaria d’Agonia in Viana do Castelo, Portimão’s Sardine Festival and beach days everywhere. Book months ahead and expect crowds on the Algarve.
