Portugal in July: Weather, Festivals and Beating the Heat
July is peak summer in Portugal: hot, sunny days, warm(ish) seas, music festivals and long evenings outdoors. It’s also busy and more expensive, especially on the coast. Here’s what to expect, and how to make the most of it.
Quick answer: expect highs of 28–30°C in Lisbon, around 29°C in the Algarve and often 35–40°C inland in the Alentejo and Douro. Highlights: NOS Alive (Algés), the Óbidos Medieval Market, and beach days everywhere. Book early, avoid the midday sun, and check wildfire warnings inland.

- Lisbon: highs around 28–30°C, with occasional heatwaves.
- Porto: around 25°C, with cooler sea breezes.
- The Algarve: around 29°C; the sea 21–23°C on the south coast.
- The Alentejo and Douro: very hot, often 35–40°C.
