5 Best Luxury Hotels in Albufeira

By the Portugal Travel Tips team · Updated 7 October 2026

Albufeira has some of the best five-star hotels in the Algarve: clifftop resorts with private beaches, huge spas and kids’ clubs that let parents actually relax. Here are our five favourite luxury stays in and around Albufeira, and which one suits whom.

Quick answer: Pine Cliffs for families and golfers, EPIC SANA for couples and value-for-money five-star, W Algarve for a stylish, adults-leaning scene, Kimpton Atlântico for a beachfront stay close to the old town, and Victoria Golf Resort & Spa (the former Anantara Vilamoura) for a quieter golf-and-spa resort 20 minutes away.

5 Best Luxury Hotels in Albufeira

How to choose

The big question is whether you want to stay put or go out. The resorts east of town, around Falésia, are self-contained worlds of pools, spas and restaurants, but you will need a taxi to reach the old town. The hotels to the west, at São Rafael and Galé, sit above smaller, prettier beaches. All five below are open in 2026, though the Vilamoura resort now trades under a new name.

  • Young children: Pine Cliffs, then EPIC SANA.
  • Couples and friends: W Algarve or Kimpton Atlântico.
  • Golf and peace: Victoria Golf Resort or Pine Cliffs.

1. Pine Cliffs, a Luxury Collection Resort

Best for: families, golfers, a do-everything resort · Area: Pinhal do Concelho, east of Albufeira

The Algarve’s classic grand resort, set in 72 hectares of pine forest on top of the red cliffs above Falésia beach, with paths down to the sand. There’s a 9-hole clifftop golf course, a large spa, lots of pools and restaurants, and one of the best kids’ clubs in Portugal (plus a children’s farm and mini-golf). The resort also has apartments and suites, handy for bigger families. It is big, so ask for a room near the facilities you’ll use most.

2. EPIC SANA Algarve

Resort pool overlooking the sea

Best for: couples, spa lovers, five-star value · Area: Praia da Falésia

A modern resort in the pines next to Pine Cliffs, with access down to the same long Falésia beach. Expect big rooms (many with terraces), several pools including adults-only and kids’ options, a large spa and good restaurants. Often a little cheaper than its neighbours for a similar level of luxury. Its family resort suites give you extra space.

3. W Algarve

Best for: design lovers, groups of friends, a buzzy vibe · Area: Praia da Galé

Opened in May 2022 on the clifftop above Galé beach, west of Albufeira, as Portugal’s first W hotel. Rooms are large residence-style suites, many with kitchenettes, and some with private pools. There’s a big pool scene with DJs, an AWAY spa, and restaurants by star chefs. Fun and stylish, but not the quietest choice.

4. Kimpton Atlântico Algarve (formerly NAU São Rafael Atlântico)

Algarve beach below the cliffs

Best for: beach lovers, couples, being near the old town · Area: Praia de São Rafael

Relaunched in May 2025 as the first Kimpton resort in Portugal, after a full renovation. The hotel sits above São Rafael, one of Albufeira’s prettiest beaches with golden sand and sea stacks. It has outdoor pools, a large wellness area with an indoor pool and spa, and restaurants with ocean views, and it’s a short taxi ride to the old town. Nini Andrade Silva designed the interiors, and there’s a rooftop bar.

5. Victoria Golf Resort & Spa (formerly Anantara Vilamoura)

Best for: golf, spa, a calmer escape · Area: Vilamoura, about 20 minutes east

Not in Albufeira itself, but close enough to be on everyone’s list, and the closest of the five to Faro airport. Accor took over the running of the old Anantara Vilamoura on 30 April 2025 and renamed it Victoria Golf Resort & Spa. A Fairmont rebrand is planned after renovation, so check what’s open when you book. It has about 260 rooms, four outdoor pools, a spa and a kids’ club. It sits next to the former Victoria course, now the private Els Club Vilamoura, and it’s the only hotel that offers guests rounds there. Vilamoura’s marina and beaches are a short drive away. Eating out beyond the resort

Even at a five-star, it’s worth a night or two in town. Albufeira’s old town and the fishermen’s beach have plenty of places for grilled fish, clams and cataplana, the Algarve’s copper-pot seafood stew. For something smarter, head to the marina. Taxis from the eastern resorts usually take 10 to 15 minutes; book a return in high season, as queues can be long late at night.

Nights out: the 2026 rules

Since the end of May 2026, Albufeira’s bars must close by 3am and its clubs by 5am. Minimarkets and off-licences stop selling at 11pm. Under the town’s code of conduct, visitors can be fined €300 to €1,500 for things like walking around town in swimwear.

When to go

Peak summer brings the most sunshine and the highest prices. Spring and early autumn are calmer and still warm enough for the pools. In winter many resorts stay open, with heated or indoor pools and lower rates, and it’s a good time for golf and spa breaks. See the Algarve in winter.

Tips for booking

  • Book early for summer. July and August sell out, and prices can double compared with May or late September.
  • Shoulder season is the sweet spot: April to June and September to October bring warm weather, quieter pools and better rates.
  • Location matters: the big resorts (Pine Cliffs, EPIC SANA) are 10–15 minutes by car from Albufeira old town. Great if you plan to stay put, less so if you want to walk out to restaurants every night.
  • Check what’s included: kids’ clubs, spa circuits and resort fees vary. Some charges are only shown at the final booking step.
  • Getting there: Faro airport is 30–40 minutes away, and the A22 motorway has been toll-free since January 2025. See Faro airport to Albufeira.

FAQ

Is the Anantara Vilamoura still open?

It’s open under a new name: since April 2025 it has been Victoria Golf Resort & Spa, run by Accor.

Which luxury hotel in Albufeira is best for families?

Pine Cliffs, for its kids’ club, children’s farm, apartments and paths down to Falésia beach. EPIC SANA next door is a good, slightly cheaper second choice.

Can you walk from the resorts to Albufeira old town?

Not from Falésia, where Pine Cliffs and EPIC SANA are. Taxis take 10 to 15 minutes. Kimpton Atlântico is closer, but it’s still a short taxi ride.
